Mid-Century Brown Jordan Calcutta Captain’s Swivel Chairs – a Pair

Coveted Brown Jordan Calcutta: Rare vintage pair of Calcutta Captain’s Swivel Chairs. These are great dining chairs or occasional chairs and very comfortable since they are a bit wider than most Calcutta arm chairs.

Styled in the Chinese Chippendale mode of faux bamboo in cast aluminum, featured by top designers like Mark Sikes, Miles Redd, and Bunny Williams. This Spring’s Palm Beach Kip’s Show House featured a spectacular patio designed in Calcutta by Billy Ceglia. It’s also featured on the cover of Summer 2022 Southern Living Magazine. Even the White House has the iconic Calcutta set, as recreated on ABC’s “Scandal”.

Designed by Hall Bradley for Brown Jordan in 1967 and inspired by the design themes of Chippendale furniture, Calcutta features cast bamboo patterns on the seat and back, while tapered legs continue the bamboo pattern. Cast aluminum does not rust and is much easier to move than cast iron, yet it doesn’t blow around on a balcony or deck.
