“A new kind of chair, made entirely of cowhide, often cloned today” – this is how Mario Bellini described the best-selling chair-armchair developed in the golden age of Italian design and today an iconic piece in the Cassina collection.

Its upholstery is made up of 21 parts in cowhide that undergo lengthy processing by hand. The upholstery is sewn and hand-fitted to the steel skeleton and closed with a zipper, like a real custom-tailored garment.

Mario Bellini is an architect and designer internationally renowned. He received the Golden Compass Award eight times and 25 of his works are in the permanent design collection of the New York MoMA, which dedicated to him a personal retrospective in 1987.He was editor of Domus magazine (1985-1991).

Wilfred Cass CBE FRSA (11 November 1924 – 18 April 2022) co-founded the Cass Sculpture Foundation.

Cass was born in Berlin and came from the famous Jewish Cassirer family. His great uncle, Paul Cassirer, was an important dealer for the impressionists in Europe. His grandfather was Richard Cassirer, the famous German brain surgeon, and his other great uncles included a publisher, an industrialist and the philosopher, Ernst Cassirer.

Cass was created a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) on 17 June 2006.
