Vintage Design

Sideboard of the Lyon designer André Sornay dating from the 40s. Structure in veneered and solid Oregon pine, stained on the bottom of the base in black. The sideboard is composed of a buffet part and a shelf part. Note the beautiful work of finishes, the furniture being entirely studded with brass nails perfectly aligned. The wood that brings out the natural flames of the Oregon pine for a very graphic rendering reinforced by the full height handle of the buffet part. Excellent vintage condition of the set (see photo) with very slight traces of time and use.

Contemporary Design

Isla dressing table by MOB Limited editions of 5 + 1 prototype Designer: Ivan Navaro and Courtney Smith (USA) Dimensions: H 154 x D 76 x W 154cm Material: Birch plywood, mirror, white coated light bulb This sculpture is a dressing table. It is inspired by the fusion of Courtney’s work Island, (2009) and a Ivan work Vanities (2017). Both artists have worked together and independently the concept of the dressing table as a solitary station for reflection. Although it is considered an obsolete object today, the dressing table is typically associated with the feminine world, beauty and intimate adornment. The work rescues this rare object with a romantic-nostalgic function, but eliminates the image of the reflected goddess, thus creating an isolated space of deep contemplation. The furniture is constructed by isosceles triangles of decreasing sizes and geometric subdivisions. It is made of plywood, with all exposed surfaces covered in light blue formica. There is a mirror, perpendicular to the main “table” of the vanity with three vials, one at each angle. The furniture has several surfaces but no drawer or cabinet. The dressing table is accompanied by a single triangular bench, which can be fitted into the triangular voids of the main object. MOB is an international design incubator that develops furniture projects designed by artists and architects. Based in Lisboa and Santiago de Chile, MOB aims to invite young creators from different parts of the world to present proposals that confront their points of view around a piece of furniture. Through exercises based on their own local realities, these pieces are located in a global scene and then finally return to the intimate context of their daily use. MOB invites creatives with both emerging and established careers, always under the premise of looking for fresh and particular voices with their own style and challenging their contexts. In this way, they want to materialize personal research into products capable of transmitting the complexity of social and formal thinking. MOB aims to produce commercial pieces that establish connections capable of developing crossovers between multiple places, creators, users, and ideas, through a production model based on commissioning design by invitation, manufacturing and distributing certificated limited editions by MOB ensuring high production standards.

Contemporary Design

Twin Sideboard by Gisbert Pöppler Dimensions: D 173 x W 48.5 x H 81 cm Materials: Semigloss hand-laquered ash wood, olive wood This cabinet appears monolithic, but the playfully circular features defy its rigorous profile. Emphasizing positive and negative space, the bulbous knobs and round concave drawer pulls invite a bemused smile and tactile exploration. While this piece is deep enough to store files, binders and records the whimsical design helps conceal the official contents. Deep shallow drawers provide practical space to store smaller items and the attractive dimensions of this piece make it the perfect place to display valued objects. The body of our Twin sideboard is produced out of solid Ash and hand lacquered, while its namesake knobs are made from Olive wood, known for the contrasting appearance of soft amber tones with an intense grain. All of their upholstery pieces are COM prices. The prices do not include any fabric. Gisbert Pöppler studied architecture at California College of Arts and Crafts, San Francisco and Technische Universität, Berlin, graduating in 1996 with a Diplom Ingenieur. After completing his studies he spent several years working for various firms in Berlin, developing new architecture after the German re-unification. In 1999 Gisbert Pöppler founded Prinz–Pöppler, a partnership with architect Ilona Prinz – together creating office environments for start-up organizations filling the dynamic Berlin landscape. Since 2004 Gisbert Pöppler has been working independently as a full-service architectural studio, offering unconventional end-to-end design solutions for corporate and residential clients.

Vintage Design

This table is part of an important and complete set of furniture drawn by Pier Luigi Colli for Fratelli Marelli in the 1940s. Tribute to Italian historical furniture, tinged with art deco influence, in the worked forms and in the ornamental use of ‘multiple woods of wood, these pieces are exceptional both in their realization and in the decorative bias. Sculpted animals are emerging from the pedestrians and facades, scalloped elements offer reliefs, the buttons are made of largely openwork bronze, the use of wooden magnifying glass plating and multiple different essences reinforces depth and tones. The pieces of furniture are overflowing and refined, which gives lightness to these richly decorated pieces of furniture. Pier Luigi Colli offers furniture here in a rustic and country spirit, designed for country villas or hunting pavilions. The quality of execution of this cabinetmaker’s furniture is remarkable, as much as the evocative and expressive character of these exceptional furniture full of elegance. The table can therefore be completed by 4 chairs, a long row ride and a smaller row.

The table by Pier Luigi Colli for Fratelli Marelli is the most original piece of this set. The tray is slender, carried by an overflowing oak base decorated with birds and plant pattern. The tapered feet in their lower part are finished with elegant brass hooves. The tray is covered with a glass, the bottom imitates the presence of a beige marble sand veined with white. The table is fine, slender, in a light shade it can imagine as a large flat desk. It is in very good condition, the surface treatment is original. Some traces of use and light time are visible.

87.5cm side, 181cm in length, 79cm high.

BIS bookshelf by MOB Limited editions of 15 + 1 prototype Designer: Benjamin Ossa (Chile) Dimensions: H 210 x D 50 x W 210 cm Material: Cherry tree veneer 18mm, steel chrome unions, reflective brown glass The BIS project for MOB seeks to be installed as a sort of island in space, accentuating its semi-translucent composition and operability on both sides of the furniture. In some way this “screen” modifies the space, divides it and conditions its use, allowing to dispose objects or not, on both sides of the furniture. Thanks to the use of reflective glasses as separators; the objects and the traffic can be observed from the opposite side. Its modular, basic and simple way, together with the use of transparency, try to connect conceptually with the use of the oriental screen and make a nod to American minimalism.
