Lady Armchair by Marco Zanuso for Arflex, 1951, Set of 2 https://www.pfjvbaj.shop/product/lady-armchair-by-marco-zanuso-for-arflex-1951-set-of-2/ https://www.pfjvbaj.shop/product/lady-armchair-by-marco-zanuso-for-arflex-1951-set-of-2/#respond Tue, 01 Oct 2024 00:50:48 +0000 https://pfjvbaj.shop/product/lady-armchair-by-marco-zanuso-for-arflex-1951-set-of-2/

Vintage Design

Designed in 1951 by Italian architect and furniture maker Marco Zanuso, these iconic chairs are a symbol of stylish, material and technological innovation. They won a gold medal at the Milan Triennale in the year of their debut.

The Lady chairs have a slim metal base that contrasts with the soft upholstered parts. They are made up of different pieces with different densities of foam rubber, which was a revolutionary construction method for the time. The seats have been completely reupholstered in a high-quality white fabric, which perfectly complements the elegant and modern design. The white color gives the chairs a fresh and light look, which can beautify any room.

The Lady chairs are not only beautiful to look at, but also comfortable to sit in. They have a spacious and ergonomic seat that adapts to the shape of the body. The backrest is slightly curved and offers good support for the back. The armrests are wide and soft, ideal for relaxing.

Neoclassical Carved White Marble Bench https://www.pfjvbaj.shop/product/neoclassical-carved-white-marble-bench/ https://www.pfjvbaj.shop/product/neoclassical-carved-white-marble-bench/#respond Tue, 01 Oct 2024 00:50:25 +0000 https://pfjvbaj.shop/product/neoclassical-carved-white-marble-bench/

Vintage Design

A rare and impressive carved white marble neoclassical bench. Late 19th century Italian, Florentine.

Backrest with relief carving of Bacchus in triumphal procession, armrests of reclining satyrs with musical pipes, on acanthus leaf carved supports.

h 121 x w 221 x d 65 cm

The bench belongs to a rare set produced in Italy in the late 19th Century. Probably by a florence carving studio Each seems to combine elements from the past dynamic shape of the “Bacchus Throne” marble chair now displayed in Louvre, Annibale Carracci’s “Triumph of Bacchus” from the ceiling fresco of th Galeria Farnese, Rome (1597-1601) together with a more figural composition approach to furniture of the celebrated sculptor Andrea Brustolon.

The and valuation of this bench was done by Silas Currie Leigh-Wood, head of the British and European scuplture and work of arts at Dreweatts Auctions.

The piece has been restored in the 1980s. The restauration has been redone with todays improved and better techniques and materials.

Vintage Italian Service Cart in Walnut and Glass Tops by Cesare Lacca, 1950 https://www.pfjvbaj.shop/product/vintage-italian-service-cart-in-walnut-and-glass-tops-by-cesare-lacca-1950/ https://www.pfjvbaj.shop/product/vintage-italian-service-cart-in-walnut-and-glass-tops-by-cesare-lacca-1950/#respond Tue, 01 Oct 2024 00:50:03 +0000 https://pfjvbaj.shop/product/vintage-italian-service-cart-in-walnut-and-glass-tops-by-cesare-lacca-1950/

Vintage Design

Peculiar and iconic serving or tea trolley; the softly proportioned lines of the frame are made of walnut treated with a light protective varnish to give it a discreet and elegant polish, characteristic of Cesare Lacca trolleys; two rectangular panes of glass, one upper and the other lower, function as countertops and add a touch of refinement and luxury to the overall design; for intelligent practicality and safety, the two panes of glass are inserted into grooves cut into the wooden frame; with this design, the trolley provides ample space for storing and displaying bottles, glasses, and other bar accessories. Two brass bars with a wooden carry-over in the center are placed at the upper ends of the cart and act as grips to move the cart. The legs are fitted with classic wheels that turn 360 degrees. We can say with certainty that the trolley is one of the many but unmistakable creations of designer Cesare Lacca; it was made between 1950 and 1955 at one of the many artisan carpentry workshops in Brianza (Lombardy, Italy), a historic location known for its designer furniture, made with great craftsmanship and where Cesare Lacca had most of his trolleys made ( he used top-notch craftsmen in the area of Cantù, Lombardy, for the furniture). Born in Naples in 1929, Italian architect-scenographer-designer Cesare Lacca created modernist furniture and metalwork in the 1950s. Like many 20th-century Italian designers, Lacca moved to Milan after World War II to launch his career. The details of his personal life and professional training are very meager, but his works have left their mark both in Italy and abroad. Cesare Lacca is particularly known for his modern-style furniture of the 1950s, which combined clean and essential geometric shapes, his pieces often featured curved details and lacquered or painted finishes that gave his creations a distinctive look. Cesare Lacca’s most iconic works are undoubtedly his wooden bar carts; they are considered functional and decorative pieces that are highly sought after by collectors and fans of mid-century modern design. Over the course of his career, Lacca designed a large number of tea and serving trolleys (which correspond to most of his pieces available on today’s market), coffee tables, and magazine racks, and although there are many different versions of the trolleys, they all have the same organic features and soft lines. He participated in national and international exhibitions and among them at the Milan Triennials in 1951 and 1954 and in 1950/1953 at “Italy at Work,” a very important traveling exhibition promoting Italian design in the U.S. The curator of the exhibition M.R. Roger says of him:” The variety and quality of his creations place him among the most influential architects and designers of the current modernist movement, the quality of his work shines through decorative effect, without yielding to exaggeration or effort.” On the wooden structure, we did not consider doing any restoration because its surface veiled patina and small imperfections make it truly seductive and fascinating and attest to its antiquity and authenticity. Moreover, restoration would have distorted the original varnish of the carriage, which is one of the fundamental characteristics of Cesare Lacca’s works. Measures width cm.82, depth cm.44, height cm.68.

Sideboard of the Lyon designer André Sornay dating from the 40s. Structure in veneered and solid Oregon pine, stained on the bottom of the base in black. The sideboard is composed of a buffet part and a shelf part. Note the beautiful work of finishes, the furniture being entirely studded with brass nails perfectly aligned. The wood that brings out the natural flames of the Oregon pine for a very graphic rendering reinforced by the full height handle of the buffet part. Excellent vintage condition of the set (see photo) with very slight traces of time and use.
