We are selling this well painted miniature portrait of a woman. This woman has interesting braided hair style that may be a clue to where she comes from, maybe a religious sect. The watercolor painting is housed in a nice giltwood Italian Florentine frame.

Condition: Good antique condition with some general age wear.

Beautiful oil on canvas by American artist, Polly Hill. This came from a family estate and was in their lake house for almost 60 years. Framed in a rustic frame, which is charming as it is, but could be reframed for a different look! A lovely and versatile piece!

We are selling this 19th century Folky oil painting. The painting has primitive naive Hudson River school style like Thomas Chambers with simple scene of a boat on a body of water with rolling clouds. The painting is done in oil on cardboard panel.

Condition: Good antique condition. Large crack in the oil on the top of the painting, some other light surface wear.

We are selling this fine little Americana watercolor painting. This painting shows a 19th century style farmhouse with some cows out front and some figures. The painting is quite well done and a little folky, appears to be signed in red in the lower left below the paper mat.

Margaret Held (1933-2016) Abstract Acrylic On Wood Board Mixed Media “Waiting”.

Measures 19” x 25” and is titled on the back “Waiting” 1980. The art is mixed media with paper painted around the edges and tissue paper lining the acrylic artwork.

The condition is good with some of the tissue paper folding and bending. The wood on the back has condition problems. But the art itself is in very good condition.

Held was a lesser known artist but her work was shown in many galleries.

This piece is unusual for her body of work. I have not found any other mixed media pieces to reference.

Biography
Margaret Held came to the United States in 1956, escaping after the suppression of the Hungarian Revolution. While raising a family of two boys with her husband, Joseph, she attended the Arts Student’s League in New York City for seven years, studying under the directions of instructors named Foster, Luckach and Levy.

Margaret had wide-ranging artistic interests. Accordingly, her paintings include landscapes, nature, line drawings, contemporary themes, and human life and figures inspired by family experiences and her life in the Unites States and Europe. Her own words describe her artist’s philosophy the best: “When I create, I am my own art critic and each painting is an emotional journey. I judge a painting to be finished only when I can look upon it with a feeling of pure satisfaction.”
