This Nikos Handwoven sweater was purchased at a very exclusive boutique in Portland Oregon in the late 1980’s or early 1990’s. Nikos was known for their exceptional handwoven products and this sweater is a perfect example of that. The sweater can be worn with a blouse underneath or alone, as it is lined. The sleeves are padded and rolled to create definition. There is a side zipper and it would fit right in to your modern minimalist wardrobe! This sweater is in excellent condition and is approximately a size S/M. Please use the measurements as a guide for the best fit.

Sonia Rykiel Vintage Sweater With Sequins & Peek A Boo Sleeves Made in France

This is an outstanding vintage black sweater from Sonia Rykiel. The statement raglan sleeves have zig zag or criss cross sequins that reveal just a slight amount of skin. The sweater has ribbed cuffs and hemline and no content label but feels like a fine wool – I almost thought it was cashmere but it feels more like a very soft wool. The sweater is oversized, so though it is labeled a size small, please use the measurements as a guide. This has a brass SR at the bottom, was made in France and is in excellent condition!

Vintage Charles Jourdan Parallele Color Block Purple 2 pc Top & Cardigan Sweater

We love this vintage 2 piece set with a short sleeve top and a cardigan from Charles Jourdan Parallele. This vintage 1980’s set is made with a similar crochet method used in the 1940’s to make ribbon dresses and it is in color block shades of purple, black, orange-red, and sage green. The top has a high round neckline with butterfly flared sleeves and the cardigan is open in the front with no closures. Labeled a size small and our estimated size is S-M. Purchased at Jennifer George in NY in the early 1980’s.

This is a lovely Valentino ivory, almost white cotton sweater with black trim along the hem, cuffs, and raglan sleeve seam, as well as a black waist tie. The waist tie goes through loops and is adjustable. It has sewn in shoulder pads that can be removed, and ribbed elastic at the cuff and hem below the waist tie. This vintage late 1980’s Sonia Rykiel Paris Wool striped oversized top is in a pale beige with bright pink horizontal stripes and a drawstring waist. This fabulous knit top has shoulder pads, 3/4 length sleeves, upper back buttons and a pointed pink collar. We love the Sonia Rykiel monogram patch on the center front! We love Sonia Rykiel vintage pieces and once you own one of her sweaters, you will understand why she was given the nickname “Queen of the Knits.” If you are looking for pieces to add to your wardrobe, a Sonia Rykiel knit sweater is a must!

They say that inventors who invent something because they the thing they are looking for hasn’t been invented yet, are the most successful. We believe that the same is true for fashion designers! Sonia Rykiel went into fashion to create garments she wanted but could not find anywhere. She was not trained as a designer, but in the early 1960’s, she found a company that would make bump revealing maternity clothing for her husband’s family-owned boutique in Paris. During that time, this was considered scandalous to wear tight clothing while pregnant! From there she started asking Italian machine-knitwear companies to make sweaters modified from ones she owned to make them smaller, with a high armhole and tight sleeves. That is how the prototype for the famous Sonia Rykiel “Poor boy sweater” was born. This sweater was skinny-ribbed and striped, and due to a twist of fate, an Elle magazine editor saw the sweater and before long, Françoise Hardy was wearing it on the magazine’s cover. Even icons like Brigitte Bardot and Audrey Hepburn bought several of the pieces. Rykiel’s clothes were a representation of her and were considered sensual, witty, and original. Long before the Japanese, she was designing pieces with unfinished hemlines and exposed seams. Her pieces changed only slightly from season to season as they were meant to be timeless, not trendy. Perhaps our favorite fact about Sonia Rykiel is that she was a huge supporter of one of our favorites, Patrick Kelly. She lobbied to have him admitted into the Chambre syndicale du prêt-à-porter des couturiers et des créateurs de mode.
